Founded in 2016, Manuka Bioscience was established with the aim of growing global awareness of native New Zealand mānuka oil, a pure and potent essential oil made from steam distilling the leaves and twigs of mānuka trees grown in the East Cape region of New Zealand.
The business is driven by the purpose of transforming the East Cape of New Zealand, an area of high unemployment, creating a sustainable industry that provides jobs and more lucrative farming options for local landowners.
Manuka Bioscience has grown from one brand, ManukaRx skincare, selling a single SKU, the ManukaRx Skin Rescue Ointment, to becoming a global category leader in mānuka oil with multiple brands, a growing international customer base, a pipeline of botanical medicines undergoing clinical and consumer studies, a strong global IP position, and ownership of the largest mānuka oil supply in New Zealand and the world.
